My pole trimmer wasn’t long enough for most jobs even when used with a ladder. I took a piece of 10′ of 1 1/2″ PVC pipe and cut relief slits at one end. I slid two radiator hose clamps over that end, inserted the pole trimmer and then tightened the clamps. It works great but gets real wobbly when extended fully. You kind of wiggle it into the general area of the branch, rest and then re-position for the cut. I’m sure it’s loads of entertainment for the neighbors to watch and it gives you a great work out for the obliques.
- The DIY extension nearly doubles the length.
- Wobble into place, set the hook, pull the cord, step backwards.
